変形性関節症のひとつ、CM関節症は、手の親指に力を入れた際に、親指の付け根あたりに痛みがでることが多いです。CM関節は親指と手首の間にある小さい関節のことで、一般的に母指CM関節と呼ばれ、親指の付け根の関節を指しています。親指のCM関節は、柔軟に動けるようになっているため、物を掴んだり、握ったりするという動作が可能です。変形性関節症は、骨と骨を繋ぐ関節の間に、クッションのような役割で覆っている軟骨がすり減ることで、骨同士がぶつかり、痛みや、骨の変形が生じてしまうことです。母指CM関節症は、最初は、痛みから始まり、軟骨のすり減りが進んでいくと、ズキッとした強い痛みや、指がくじけやすくなります。母指CM関節症などの、指の変形性関節症は、女性の方が罹患が多くなっています。特に、更年期以降は加齢による老化現象として、関節軟骨がすり減りやすく、関節の炎症を起こしやすくなります。また、若い人でも、セラピストなどは、指への負荷の蓄積などで、発症する場合もあります。母指CM関節症は、親指の付け根の関節に柔軟さを超えた負荷がかかり続けた結果とされています。鍼灸治療としては、血流を改善して、血行を促進して、骨を支える筋に栄養を与えて、摩耗してしまった軟骨を支えるようにします。また、痛みの鎮静鎮痛効果にも効果があります
