顔の歪みの主な原因は、病気以外では、加齢と、生活習慣です。頬杖をつく、片方の奥歯で噛むなど、日々の繰り返しの行為が顔に負担をかけ、歪みの原因を作ることがあります。顔の歪みの種類は、鏡を見て分かるものから、人に指摘されて気づくものまでさまざまです。 食事をする時に左右どちらか一方の奥歯だけで、噛み続けるクセがあると、噛まない側にほうれい線ができやすくなるといわれています。ほうれい線が左右のどちらか片方だけに出る、左右の太さや長さ、深さなどが異なる場合は、顔の歪みや非対称が生まれてきます。口角とは口の両端の部分も、角度が左右で異なっていたら、顔に歪み、非対称がでやすくなります。目の大きさや位置が左右非対称については、目にも手、同様に、利き目があります。パソコンやスマホの画面を見る時によく利き目を使います。仕事やプライベートで毎日長時間使用していると、利き目側の表情筋ばかりが発達し顔が歪み、左右の目の大きさまで違ってきてしまうことがあります。眉についても、寝る時の姿勢や、噛みグセなどに影響を受けて眉の高さが変化してしまう事があります。耳の高さは、原因の多くは利き目、噛みグセ、噛み締めなどから、耳の高さの左右差を生むと言われています。眉の高さや目の高さ、ほお骨の高さの歪みは、頬杖も影響します。人間の頭の重さは、体重の約10%と言われています。つまり体重50kgの人の場合、頭の重さは約5kg。頬杖をついて片手でその重みを支えると、顔の片側だけに強い力が加わり、眉の高さや目の高さ、ほお骨の高さなどに歪みが生じる原因となります。顔だけでなく、足を組んで座ると骨盤が歪みやすくなりますが、顔の歪みにも影響を与える可能性があります。右足を上にして足を組むと、身体は左側に傾きます。そして、バランスを取るために頭の重心は右側へ傾けるようになり、同時に肩や首が不自然に傾き、その影響で顔にもひずみが生まれやすくなります。常にショルダーバッグを右肩にかけると、重みを支えようとして右肩が上がります。そして、頭はバランスを取るために右側に傾きます。この状態が長く続けば、顔にも歪みが生まれることもあります。起きているばかりが原因ではなく、寝ているときも、顔の歪みは生じます。人間は眠っている間にも、寝返りを打つことで、起きている間に歪んだ背骨や骨盤を元の位置に修正しています。しかし、精神的なストレスや、飲酒などで、固まって寝てしまい、寝返りをしないで同じ姿勢のまま朝を迎えると、背骨や骨盤に無理がかかり歪み、その影響で、顔にも歪みがでることがあります。顔の歪みや、非対称を改善するには、顔そのものだけでなく、心、体、精神の根幹からバランスを整え、 左右非対称の生活習慣をやめることです。鍼灸では、左右のバランスが均等になるように、筋をゆるめていくことや、皮膚に微細な傷を鍼でつけることで、皮膚を収縮させることで、非対称の歪みを改善させていくことができます。

Ear height is said to be caused mostly by dominant eye, biting, and chewing habits, which can result in left-right differences in ear height. Distortions in brow height, eye height, and cheekbone height can also affect cheekbones. The weight of the human head is said to be about 10% of the body weight.
