坐骨神経は、腰から足の先までつながっている、人体のなかでも最も太くて長い、何本もの神経が集まった、神経の束のようなものです。この坐骨神経が圧迫されると、その周辺にある知覚領域（痛みを感じるエリア）が刺激され、電気が走ったような痛みや、ピリピリしたしびれ、麻痺などを引き起こします。痛みが出る場所も、腰、おしり、太もも、ふくらはぎ、ひざの裏、すね、足先など、人によってさまざまです。痛みの原因となる疾患によっては、歩行が困難になることもあります

The sciatic nerve is a bundle of nerves, the thickest and longest nerve in the human body, which is connected from the lower back to the tip of the foot. When this sciatic nerve is compressed, the surrounding sensory area (the area where pain is felt) is stimulated, causing pain, tingling, numbness and paralysis, as if there were an electric shock.The location of the pain can vary from person to person, including the lower back, hips, thighs, calves, backs of knees, shins and toes.
